The Big Bad Wolf

So we have another classic costume ready for you to buy, it is of course the big bad wolf himself dressed up in grannies clothing covered in blood!

This image is of course based on the old and new Red Riding Hood narrative, in the original Red Riding Hood narrative we see a girl who is delivering food to her sick grandma, when she is on her way she bumps into a wolf and she is fooled into telling the wolf the location of her Grandma. When Red Riding Hood arrives at her Grandmas she finds that the Grandma has been eaten by a big bad wolf and shortly after this Red Riding Hood gets eaten as well! In this original narrative the main characters do actually get killed by the wolf and the original is also a lot more graphic and intense than versions we have seen in recent years, at the time the reason behind such an unhappy ending was so that children did not give information to strangers no matter who they were.

In more recent years the story has been toned down a bit so that it can be read by children, and in this version you will notice that the Grandma does not in fact get eaten, and Red Riding Hood gets help from a local huntsman to actually kill the wolf! This version has an alternative happy ending and is a classic story still read to children to this day.

This year we saw a film that was actually based on the Red Riding Hood story, directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight) the film simply entitled Red Riding Hood told the story of a girl who falls in love with an orphaned woodcutter, at the same time they are haunted by a warewolf! This film has again reminded audiences as to why the story of Red Riding Hood is such an important one, and will forever be remembered and respected.
