The Godfather is in short THE biggest gangster film in well, the history of films, as it stands this motion picture is yet to be beaten!

The first Godfather is set in 1945 and it tells the story of Don Vito (Marlon Brando) who is the leader of a New York Mafia, which will be known to some as "Family" as he attends his daughter's wedding his son Michael (Al Pacino) also comes home from the War. The story progresses as Michael does not want to live his dads life, he just wants to live a normal life, without the worry of and getting into fights etc.

A local drug dealer in the area known as Virgil Sollozzo is asking around for Mafia families to provide security for him, and he will then offer them some of the money he gets for selling drugs. Virgil asks the mafia "Family" leader Don if he is up for this offer but Don refuses as he does not want to get his name, as well as his family named involved with the drug world as he is completely against it.

Sollozzo is angered at being turned down by Don, so he quickly sends his hit men out to shoot him down. After the shoot out Don barely survives as he was clearly outnumbered by Sollozzo's men. His son Michael finds out about the hit and although he is against the whole mafia idea, he decides to start a brutal war on Sollozzo!

This is just the basic storyline for Godfather, it would take a while to explain the further two sequels, which were both just as brilliant and big as the first one.

The cast behind this trilogy is absolutely amazing; first we have Al Pacino who is still acting to this day! He went on to be part of masterpieces like "Heat" and "Scarface" in more recent years we have also seen the actor take part in the Ocean's Eleven trilogy, proving to the world that he still has what it takes to be a successful actor after all of these years.

Marlon Brando who sadly passed away in 2004 was equally as successful as Al Pacino, he took part in films such as "Superman" in 1978, and he was also in one of the most talked about war films of all time "Apocalypse Now"

The last actor we should mention that features in this legendary trilogy is Robert De Niro. If you don't know who this man is, then you are heavily missing out! His credits include "Taxi Driver" "Raging Ball" and "Goodfellas" which was another gangster classic! Robert De Niro is also still acting to this day, his most recent work includes "Limitless" "Stardust" and "Shark Tale" all of these films proved that Robert De Niro also still has what it takes to be a great actor!

These three actors have helped provide a backbone to The Godfather trilogy and without them in the films, there is no doubt that The Godfather would not be as big as it is now.
