Jack The Ripper

Jack the Ripper is the name of the untitled and still unidentified killer who was active in 1888 in the Whitechapel part of London. The name actually came from a letter that someone had wrote claiming to be this infamous serial killer, this of course was amplified by the media at the time as they really could not track this person at all, and that is partly why the name Jack The Ripper has stuck throughout the years. He also had nicknames such as "The Whitechapel Murderer" and "Leather Apron".

In the slum area of Whitechapel the attacks would mainly involve prostitutes and although there have been 100’s of suggestions as to who the killer may be, none of these cases have had enough evidence to prove the police, and since these killings in 1888 the crimes still remain unsolved!

There have been many films and TV episodes that have used Jack the Ripper in their plot. Michael Caine played a Scotland Yard Inspector in search of Jack the Ripper in a TV series simply entitled "Jack the Ripper" back in 1988, the show went on to be a success and shortly won a Golden Globe award! The fantastic film "From Hell" starring Johnny Depp also shows of what Jack the Ripper might have looked like back in 1888, this film shows a detective who is after the famous Whitechapel Murderer! Over the years films like this have helped to keep Jack the Ripper so well known.
