Scarecrow Costumes and Ideas

Dressing up as a scarecrow is clearly a classic idea for any Halloween party, there have been many scary films to include a scarecrow in their plot to enhance the atmosphere and create something rather unique for the viewer.

In 2003 we saw Jeepers Creepers 2 being released, in this film we saw how a scarecrow can really be used to create a haunting atmosphere in a film. Taking place four days after the original Jeepers Creepers we see a man and his son putting up fences in the middle of a cornfield. Whilst his father and brother remain busy on this task Billy Taggert decides to set up some scarecrows in the cornfield to keep away unwanted birds. We then see one of the scarecrows moving its head; confused by this Billy goes right up to the scarecrow to see what's happened and notices talons on its feet! Instantly scared by this Billy runs to find his brother. Quickly the "scarecrow" comes to life and jumps on Billy. His brother and dad take their rifle into the field in search of the "scarecrow" sadly once they find it the creature flies off with Billy leaving the dad and son upset and scared as to what just happened. This is one of the most well known scenes in a horror film to include a scarecrow as a big scare!

A great film that includes a scarecrow in its plot is of course Dark Night of the Scarecrow this TV film told that narrative of a man who was wrongfully killed, after his death he comes back to life as a scarecrow to take revenge on the ones that killed him! This is one of the first films that used the outfit of a scarecrow to try and scare its audience, it wasn't and still isn't a massive film, but it is a perfect example as to why dressing up as a scarecrow is a really unique idea.
