The Smurfs & Smurf Costume Ideas

The Smurfs is easily one of the biggest cartoons to ever exist. I am sure a lot of us remember those early mornings just before school started, and The Smurfs would be on while you eat your breakfast.

The Smurfs was originally created by the cartoonist Pierre Culliford on October 23rd 1958. The first Smurf related tale was based in medieval times, and it told the narrative of a young page to the king named "Johan" who was in search of a magical flute. Upon doing so they bumped into a very small blue creature with white clothing known as a "Smurf" the Smurf was followed by many others that looked just like him including papa Smurf who wore red shorts, this was the birth of The Smurfs franchise.

This story proved to be an incredible success worldwide, I am sure that the version of The Smurfs a lot of us remember is of "Hanna-Barbera's" animated series which was unleashed in 1981, this show proved to be an incredible success and it went on to earn an award for "Outstanding Children's Entertainment". Sadly in the late 80's the Smurfs TV series was cancelled due to a decrease in views, but this did not stop it from being repeated constantly for the next twenty years!

In 2011 The Smurfs will be regaining its worldwide fame, as there is a film coming out with all your favourite characters returning once more for a crazy adventure. The extremely popular Katy Perry is also on board to play the voice of Smurfette, as well as other famous actors like Alan Cumming, Neil Patrick Stewart, so it is no doubt that the Smurf craze will arise one more time.
