The Thing

This film is as an absolute horror classic and is another great influence as to what you can dress up as this Halloween, although the monster in The Thing doesn't have an actual look it's a great inspiration to make you dress up as well, whatever you want just make sure that you really buy a costume that scares the living daylights out of your friends and family, and that is really what the film The Thing is all about.

This film is directed by the world famous John Carpenter (Halloween, Assault on Precinct 13, They Live) and it tells the story of a group of scientists located in the Antarctic who have to defend themselves against a shape changing alien that takes on the appearance of anyone it kills. R.J MacReady (Kurt Russell) is the natural leader of the group in this film and he does his best to keep everyone sane, as nobody is too sure if their friend is their friend, or if it is in fact the evil shape shifting alien that is currently taking out the team one by one!

The obvious fact that makes this film so classic is the isolation, they are in the middle of nowhere and they can't do anything about escaping for a couple of months! This alone creates an instant tension within the group and viewers of the film.

Some members of the group go naturally crazy due to this horrible event as there really is no way of escape as if they were to walk out in into the snow, they would simply freeze to death over night! Factors like this make for a gripping and mesmerising watch, and this is why The Thing is one of the best horror films ever made.

To prove how much of a mark this film has made in the history of horror films, at the end of 2011 we will be seeing a remake of The Thing hitting our cinemas, will it be as good as the original was? I am sure it won't be, but it will prove that horror films made in the 70's and 80's really are and always will be amazing.
