Twister was created by Charles F. Foley and Neil Rabens in 1966. It hit fame when it was played by Eva Gabor and Johnny Carson on the televisions Tonight Show on May 3rd 1966. Since its release many people have tried to beat the record for the most contestants in one game. In the eyes of the Guinness Book of World Records the biggest game of Twister to go ahead consisted of a 4,600 square feet area of mats which were all attached together. The biggest mat to be created in the world was won by The University of Tulsa, Oklahoma, it measured at 39 m x 36.2m and this is still yet to be beaten.

The game has even been noticed by famous musicians such as R.E.M. who include the lyrics "Lets play Twister, let's play Risk" in their classic song "Man on the Moon", we think this is pretty amazing for a game that was just started up by two people! The game has also been seen in programmes like Fairly Odd Parents, where we see Timmy's parents playing the game. One of the most classic moments where we see Twister is from the film ‘Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey'. In the film they challenge death to a game of twister, and if they win, they gain a free pass out of hell. They of course, win!
